In 2009 the Federal Government implemented a first-time homebuyer tax credit in hopes to provide some relief for the deteriorating housing market. A 10% credit up to $8,000 for qualified first-time buyers was an offer that many could not refuse. Short-term results of this program clearly provide an economy stimulus. Many who were struggling to buy a home at that time were able to make the purchase and it was effective in motivating buyers. On the other hand, there are cases where this tax credit may hinder the economic recovery in the long-run. The lasting effects are just now nearing the surface.
